Promotional Mail & Email

How we use mail and email to better serve you

To make sure you’re informed of SMCU’s loan, account, and promotional offerings, we use a variety of channels to communicate directly with members and non-members. Two of those channels are mail and email.

Mail:

When SMCU sends mail to you, it falls under one of three categories below.

1. Promotional Mail: These communications will include an invitation to open, apply, utilize, or learn more about a highlighted financial product or service. We will use the address we have on file for you unless the National Change of Address (NCOA) registry has a forwarding address.

  • What you can control: If you no longer wish to receive promotional mail from SMCU, you can call (650) 363-1725 or visit any branch and ask to be placed on the “Do Not Mail” list.

2. Prequalified Offer Mail: These communications include a prescreened offer of credit based on your relationship with SMCU and your credit bureau information. We will use the address we have on file for you.

  • What you can control: If you no longer wish to receive Prequalified Offer mail from SMCU, you must opt out by calling Experian at (888) 567-8688, writing to Experian at P.O. Box 9532 Allen, Texas 75013 or visiting their website at www.optoutprescreen.com. Please note, opting out in this manner will remove you from all prequalified offers from Experian through any vendor and not just those sent by SMCU.

3. Account Information Mail: These communications will include information directly related to an account, loan, or service you use at SMCU for informational or compliance purposes. We will use the address we have on file for you.

  • What you can control: You cannot opt out or limit these types of communications as they are required based on the relationship you have with SMCU.

Email:

When SMCU sends an email to you, it falls under one of three categories below.

1. Promotional Email: These communications will include an invitation to open, apply, utilize, or learn more about a highlighted financial product or service. We will use the email address we have on file for you, if one is available.

  • What you can control: As a member of SMCU, your membership automatically opts you in to receive promotional email. If you no longer wish to receive promotional email from SMCU, you can opt out using the link at the bottom of any email we send.

2. Prequalified Offer email: These communications include a prescreened offer of credit based on your relationship with SMCU and your credit bureau information. We will use the email address we have on file for you, if one is available.

  • What you can control: If you no longer wish to receive Prequalified Offer email from SMCU, you can opt out using the link at the bottom of any email we send. However, please note that to fully opt out of receiving Prequalified Offers, you must call Experian at (888) 567-8688, write to Experian at P.O. Box 9532 Allen, Texas 75013 or visit their website at www.optoutprescreen.com. Please note, opting out in this manner will remove you from all prequalified offers from Experian through any vendor and not just those sent by SMCU.

3. Account Information email: These communications will include information directly related to an account, loan, or service you use at SMCU for informational or compliance purposes. We will use the email address we have on file for you, if one is available.

  • What you can control: You cannot opt out or limit these types of communications as they are required based on the relationship you have with SMCU.
