What You Need

Here's a list of the information and documentation you may need to complete your loan application.

General personal information

  • Social Security number
  • Home addresses for the past two years
  • Landlord contact information (if applicable)

Employment information

  • Dates and places of employment for the past two years
  • Employer contact information for the past two years

Monthly income

  • Amount of monthly employment income, including commissions, overtime, tips and bonuses
  • Dividends and interest
  • Pension or retirement
  • Social Security or disability
  • VA benefits
  • Alimony and/or child support (if you will use these funds to repay the loan)
  • Foster care income
  • Total gross rental income

Monthly housing expenses

  • Rent
  • Current mortgage payment
  • Other home financing payments
  • Homeowner's insurance
  • Real estate taxes
  • Private mortgage insurance
  • Homeowner's association dues

Other monthly expenses

  • Alimony payments
  • Child support payments
  • Separate maintenance payments
  • Job-related expenses (e.g., child care, union dues, etc.)

Real estate

  • Address and estimated value of real estate currently owned
  • Loan information for real estate currently owned:
    - Creditor's name
    - Account number
    - Monthly payment

Financial assets

  • Institution name, account number and balance for:
    - Checking
    - Savings
    - Investment accounts (including 401k)
  • Total market value of any stocks, bonds and CDs you hold
  • Make, model and market value of automobiles you own
  • Net cash value of life insurance
  • Vested interest amount in your retirement fund(s)
  • Net worth of any business owned

Personal financial documents
While every loan application is unique, these are the most common types of personal documents required:

  • Paycheck stubs, showing year-to-date earnings and covering at least 30 days
  • Tax returns from the past two years
  • W-2 forms for the past two years
  • Supporting documents showing any additional income you'll apply toward the loan
  • Bank or investment account statements from the last two months (if you'll be using these funds for a down payment or closing costs)
  • Lease agreement or past years' tax returns if you own real estate and have rental income
